Multiple Sitemaps: How To Submit A Sitemap Index

There are 50,000 URLs or 50MB in size file allowed for the sitemap. Multiple sitemaps help when this condition exceeds then you can submit these sitemaps XML location to the sitemap index. You can do this by creating a single sitemap file. The sitemap only contains the 200 response code URL. Therefore redirects and URL blocked by robots.txt are not allowed in the sitemap.

Note: You can submit your sitemap within the sitemap tag. A compressed .gz file is not necessary. If you have a compressed gzipped file then you can submit it like in syntax. 

Multiple sitemaps files supported by Google search engine and these files you can submit in Google webmaster tools. Below you can see some file formats:
  • XML that is described below
  • TEXT sitemap file contains only the URL list that you want to submit means you don't need to add coding like an XML format
  • RSS-ATOM feed sitemap includes feeds published on the RSS feed platform and if you want to submit a sitemap in Google search console you can do adding the RSS.xml after the
Google handles all these sitemap formats very well. Google does not currently include means consume the attribute <priority> in sitemaps.

Note: Sitemap has 0.0 to 1.0 priority levels. By default, it is set to 0.5 and the higher number tells it is more important, and with this page may index more often and/or appear above other pages from the same site in the result.

  • <loc> used for URL location.

  • <video:thumnail_loc> used for thumnail location.

  • <video:title> used to tell the video title.

  • <video:description> tag is used to tell video description.

  • <video:content_loc> tag used to tell the exact location of video content.

  • <video:player:loc> you can specify your player with this tag.

  • <video:duration> tag tells the full length of video content.

  • <video:expiration_date> tag used when your video content gets expire on a particular date.

  • <video:price_currency="EUR"> tag help to receive payment with require currency.

  • <video:reqiures_subscription> use yes for paid video content.
The last three tags used in case you are providing the paid video.

The image Sitemap tags are defined in the above image. You must use XML version and encoding and also XML namespace. Use schema with attribute "xmlns" under <urlset> tag. You can add multiple images with <image> tag. <loc> tag contains URL's location and <image:loc> tag used for image location.
Note: Flash is no longer supported in most mobile Web browsers, and is planned to be deprecated by Adobe in 2020. I recommend using a different format, such as HTML5.
